The Zisa district is located in the city of Palermo. It takes its name from the Norman palace of the same name, the Zisa, which is located within it.
Zisa is a multicultural and vibrant neighborhood characterized by a mixture of different architectural styles and cultural influences. It is a neighborhood rich in Palermo's commercial activities and folk traditions.
The Garofalo family has been running this cheese store continuously since 1948; it is a reference point for caciocavallo enthusiasts from halfway across Sicily.
Salvatore and Giuseppe, Gaetano Garofalo's sons, every morning, and then around 7:30 p.m. (when they bring in the cheeses for sale the next day), will let you taste the best cheeses, with varied stagianature, from Sicily and in particular from the mountains of Palermo: cacio cavallo, pecorino, very fresh ricotta, tuma, mozzarella and many salumi and every good thing to bring to the tables of the most demanding for taste and refinement.
Prices are more than affordable in spite of excellent quality. The little store is located on Corso Olivuzza (as Corso Camillo Finocchiaro Aprile is known) at number 129.
Be prepared for a long line as it is often full of customers, but Salvatore with his great friendliness will know how to make your time pass pleasantly while waiting for your turn.
